Understanding How Stripe Processing Fees Work

When using Payments in Extensiv, Stripe applies processing fees. These are calculated based on the total amount charged to the customer at the time of payment, not just the original invoice balance.

What’s Included in the Fee Calculation

Stripe applies its processing fees to the full payment amount, which may include:

  • The original invoice total
  • Any applied convenience fee

Once these are combined, Stripe calculates its fee on the resulting total.

Platform (Stripe) processing fees

  • Credit Card: 3% of the total payment amount
  • ACH: 0.9% of the total payment amount, capped at $100

Step‑by‑Step Example

Invoice breakdown

  • Invoice amount: $1,000
  • Convenience fee: $20
  • Total charged to customer: $1,020

Stripe fee calculation

Stripe calculates processing fees on $1,020, not on $1,000.

  • Credit Card:
    3% × $1,020 = $30.60
  • ACH:
    0.9% × $1,020 = $9.18
    (subject to the $100 cap)
